Current Surfaces, Inc. is offering a $1,000.00 Scholarship to any High School Track participant with at least three years experience in the sport to further their education and pursue a productive and rewarding life.

The 2009 scholarship application will be available in January.

Our 2008 scholarship recipient is Lindsay Bo of Fruitport High School. Here is her essay:

"Because of the lessons I have learned from each of its laps, the 1600-meter-run has become my favorite event. Each of these lessons are applicable not only to my races, but to my everyday life as well, and it is through each of these lessons that track has enriched my life.

At the beginning of every race, I re-learn the value of taking initiative. If I do not take the initiative to start out strong, I will never catch my competitors later in the race. Similarly, in life, I have learned that I must take bold, ambitious steps in order to be a successful leader.

The second lap of the mile confirms my commitment to the race, and I know that once the second lap is over, I have fully devoted myself to a grueling race. From this lap I have learned that once I commit to any task, I should never back out of it. Following through with various assignments in life demonstrates integrity and honesty, and following through with a race illustrates perseverance.

Perseverance has aided me in the third and most challenging lap. This character quality is vital in every aspect of life, and is necessary to achieve greatness, even after failure. Having endured numerous laps of the mile, I know that I can accomplish any task I am presented with if I work hard.

The fourth and final lap emphasizes the significance of finishing strong. It is the most important part of the race, and it highlights all of the hard work I have put forth. It makes the whole race worth running. Likewise, in life, when I finish a demanding school assignment or a challenging task, I work towards the end, and I finish strong."
